Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre

Description

Neighbourhood Centres, or Houses, bring people together to connect, learn and contribute in their local community through social, educational, recreational and support activities, using a unique community development approach.
BNC improves our local community by delivering skills and training, working with other community organisations to create employment, training and volunteering opportunities and by working together with residents and others to make our neighbourhoods the best they can be.

Activities

Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre has years of experience in working with learners to design programs suited to their individual needs. We deliver Learn Local programs, also known as pre-accredited learning. These programs are designed to help you gain the confidence and skills needed to look for a job or go on to further study. They include courses in job search skills, getting ready to go back to work, business and IT skills, and literacy and numeracy.

Developing Other Talents & Skills (DOTS)

Description

DOTS is a flexible learning program designed to provide education and support to vulnerable young people who have disengaged from or been excluded by schools or education providers, yet still have an aspiration to learn. DOTS is provided by Phoenix College. It is our intention at DOTS to reintroduce young people to learning to building on their successes and provide a positive educational experience for all our students as they move towards their preferred adult pathways.

Activities

At DOTS students collaborate with their teacher to negotiate & develop an Individualised Learning Plan (ILP) tailored to meet their needs, personal interests, abilities & future aspirations, including:
- Transitioning or returning to some form of mainstream education.
- Work Ready - for those students wanting to begin some work experience, trial taster courses, volunteer, VETiS Courts, Safe@Work certificates, employment.
- DECV (Distance Education Centre Victoria) - Year 9, 10 and VCE levels.

Activities

Youth programs at Federation College offer recognised secondary programs for 15-19 year olds across the region (Ballarat, Bacchus March, Maryborough and Horsham) providing a hands on & nurturing environment that is very different from standard secondary schools. Training options also available at FedUni, include pre-apprenticeship programs to help you get into an apprenticeship, as well as FAST, a university preparation program which can give you the option of studying one of our degrees.
